In British Columbia, voters are deciding on electoral reform through a mail-in referendum. Voters are asked whether they want to keep B.C.’s first-past-the-post electoral system or switch to one of three proportional representation systems. One issue with the change is how it would affect Indigenous people spread out across the province. Under a proportional system, power is more broadly spread across the political spectrum. Union of B.C. Indian Chiefs Grand Chief Stewart Phillip is in favor of the change.
